Cybersecurity Is a Set of Controls, Not a Single Product
Small business cybersecurity usually fails when one tool is treated as the entire strategy. Antivirus alone is not enough. MFA alone is not enough. Backup alone is not enough. The business needs layered controls that work together: identity protection, endpoint protection, DNS filtering, email security, patching, backups, documentation, and a response plan.
The right approach should be practical. A small business does not need theater or enterprise complexity. It needs the common entry points closed, critical accounts protected, backups verified, employees trained, and recovery steps documented before a crisis.
Where to Start
Start with MFA for Microsoft 365 and administrator accounts. Then review endpoint protection, backups, password practices, DNS filtering, phishing awareness, and incident response. If cyber insurance is involved, compare the policy application questions against the actual environment.
